If you’re like me, at the beginning of this year, you wrote down anywhere between one and 5 goals that you wanted to achieve this year. And, right about now, you’re either assessing how you did with each of those goals, or you’re realizing you completely forgot what they were. I’m somewhere in the middle – I have a vague recollection of what they are.
One, as always, had to do with losing weight. I did not lose as much weight as I had hoped to. But, I have incorporated some healthy practices into my daily life, finally admitting that I need more sleep than I normally get. I’m also thinking about my weight and health a bit differently, which is a big lesson for me.
Another resolution was to read 1 book per month. (I think I’m on book #5.) So, unless I’m going to read 7 books in the next 3 weeks, I’m falling a bit short on that one. No, 5 books isn’t 12, but I enjoyed the few books that I did read, and I look forward to rolling that TBR list into the new year.
Another major goal for the year was to grow my business, increase sales, and build my client base, and guess what?!?! I DID THAT! I conquered my fear of big websites and relaunched a client’s pretty large e-commerce website. I invested in a few smart classes and training programs that helped me clear the clutter in my head around reaching out to prospective clients. My success in business this year goes beyond the checklists, and the everyday to-dos. It has a lot more to do with shifting my mindset and perspective. I’ve got a long way to go, but I’m taking a minute this month to look back at where I was this time last year, and celebrate everything I’ve achieved this year. And, I’m really looking forward to what next year will bring.
So, that brings me to the question: Are you happy with your growth this year? Remember – It’s not all about the sales numbers. Have you grown as a person? How has your business evolved? Do you feel like you’ve been stagnant this year?
If you’re reading this and thinking “Yeah, that’s me. I had big plans and big dreams for this year, but XXX happened, and I just never got around to it.”, I’ll say this: It’s never too late to make a change. Think about the area where you don’t feel like you’ve done as much as you could. It’s probably weighing on you pretty heavily. I have a suggestion.
Is there ONE small step you can take that will get you a little bit closer to that goal? Take that step today. I know that for me, taking even a small step in the right direction makes such a difference. For example, I know I don’t have time to declutter my entire house, so I gather a few of the books that the kids have outgrown and drop them in a donation bin and that feels great! You can do this in your business too. It doesn’t necessarily feel good because you’re closer to the goal, but because you’ve taken a tiny bit of that weight off your shoulders and feel a sense of progress. This positive feeling will carry over into other areas of your day, benefiting so many aspects of your life.
